This past Monday was MLK day which meant Daniel had off, and then he worked from home on Tuesday so the long weekend felt reallllly long (in the best way possible). We’re in the middle of “redecorating” our office and I’m just constantly reminding myself that things have to get worse before they get better. But my mental stability is very much tied to the tidiness of my home so having major chaos among the baby chaos is a little, well… chaotic. Looking forward to putting the big things back together and SO grateful for the privilege to have enough in my life to have a sense of clutter.
📚 WHAT TO READ: Hi, my name is Tessa and I am a chick-lit addict. I fully understand that chick-lit isn’t the most thought provoking genre, but it’s comfy and easy and that’s what I’m looking for at the moment. So when my sister told me that she was starting Book Lovers by Emily Henry I immediately purchased a copy. It appears to be a typical story of big city girl falls in love with an unsuspecting guy. Pretty pumped about it.
📺 WHAT TO WATCH: Severance is baaaackkkkk! Season 1 started off a little slow, but ended up being one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. If you haven’t heard of or watched Severance yet, it’s a mind bending, sci-fi, dystopian kind of thriller show that’s set in an office where you have no idea what they’re doing or why they’re working. If you did indeed watch season one, but haven’t started season two yet, I highly recommend watching a recap like the one below on YouTube. Since season 1 came out so long ago, the recap at the beginning of season 2 just didn’t cut it for us.
🎧 WHAT TO LISTEN TO: At this point I’m really just a Culture Apothecary fan page. Week after week, Alex Clark is interviewing fantastic guest and discussing pivotal topics. I know so many of you are in search of helpful TTC, pregnancy, and postpartum information and this episode was great.
Add salt to your water. It doesn’t matter how much water you’re drinking if it doesn’t have minerals in it. Actually, it can be quite bad to drink a ton of mineral void water because then your body pulls the minerals from itself. So to stay on top of our hydration we add a tiny pinch of salt to our huge glasses of water. And no, not all salt is created equally. We’ve been using Jacobsen and really liking it!
If you want to read a little article on the heavy metal testing of Jacobsen salt, you can read it here.
Medicinal Marshmallows are my new obsession. They’re incredibly easy to make and you basically can’t mess them up. Even if you think you messed them up and overmixed them well, they melt anyways so who cares?
You can get everything you need to make them here. And if you want THE FULL RECIPE, which is WAY BETTER than the one below, you can get that ✨here✨ —> on my website TheTessaSmith.com
1 tbsp organic marshmallow root
1 1/4 cup hot water
1/4 cup gelatin
1/2 cup maple syrup and/or raw honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp collagen powder optional
optional: cacao powder, arrow root powder, or confectioners sugar for coating the pan and oil to make it stick
Steep water in marshmallow root for 15 minutes - 1 day in the fridge
Heat water and bloom gelatin in a pot
Add to a stand mixer or bowl along with remaining ingredients (minus the powders for coating the pan)
Mix for 10ish minutes, until ribbon stage
Add to prepared baking dish and smooth
Let harden in the refrigerator for like 60ish minutes or longer and cut up
Enjoy!
Today I will be discussing my postpartum fitness “routine” and how I’m staying active with an infant. I’m finally feeling pretty normal and strong again so I’m really excited to share a little more on this topic.
